The Scarlet Elastic-Waist Pants (trousers) sewing pattern is now available for download! The pattern includes digital files for printing on A4/US Letter (8.5x11) and A0/US Wide Format (36x48", aka Arch E), and a separate projector file.
What should you know before making them?
- The instructions are detailed enough to be followed by someone who has never made pants before. However, if you are a true beginner or have never sewn garments before, you may need additional information and references (take a look at the Resources page!)
- The pattern is designed to fit trans women and transfemmes who have proportions somewhere between "men's" and "women's" standard sizing. In particular, it will fit best on individuals with an average to flat seat. If you have needed to make full-seat adjustments before, or have a lower seat, you may need to alter the crotch curve on this pattern by "scooping" it, and you may need to extend the back rise.
- The pattern is designed for fabric with medium to high drape, but it can work well with more structured (stiffer) fabric. You may want to size down if using more structured fabric, since it will not naturally fall along the shape of your body, and may look too big. Check the size chart and finished garment measurement chart first!
- The pattern was tested by individuals between sizes 36 and 74, and height ranges 2-3. Final changes to the fit of the pattern itself after testing were minimal. If you are making a size outside of the tested ranges, and would like to provide any feedback or photos of results, I would love to hear from you, via email (t4textiles@proton.me). Please also contact me if you find technical issues with the pattern files.
Have you made this pattern? You can review it on Threadloop, and create a public project to share photos.
