A men's shirt won't necessarily achieve a masculine look if it doesn't fit well. In the examples below we have two figures wearing men's untucked casual button-down shirts.
The first figure's shirt is much too long. Their hips look wide because the shirt covers them, adding an extra layer of fabric. The shoulders of the shirt are too wide, so they hang down too low on the arms.
A cropped top with high-waisted pants can also look more feminine. The average man's torso is proportionally longer than the average woman's, and high-waisted pants and cinched waistlines are not currently in style for men, so a silhouette with a high waistline usually won't come across as masculine:
The figure below has a more masculine silhouette. To achieve this, follow these tips:
Combining these together, this figure's hips don't look much wider than the upper body.
As you may know, these points are only relevent in the context of current Western gendered fashion trends. Men have worn high-waisted pants and shirts covering their hips in various times and places. What you wear is ultimately up to you!
